What Is a Case Converter?

A case converter changes the capitalization of text without making you retype it. Use it to fix a paragraph written with Caps Lock on, make headings consistent, or turn a phrase into a developer-friendly name.

Convert Text Case Instantly

Paste your text above and choose a format. The result replaces the text in the same box, so you can edit it, try another conversion, or copy it straight into your document. Writing formats keep your spaces, line breaks, and punctuation. Developer formats join words and replace separators.

The live counters use the same rules as our Word Counter: words are whitespace-separated groups containing a letter or number. Characters count Unicode code points, so a combined emoji or an accented letter can contain more than one. The count without spaces excludes tabs and line breaks too. Lines count explicit line breaks, including empty lines, rather than visual wrapping; an empty box has zero lines.

Case Conversion Options

Sentence Case

Lowercases text, then capitalizes the first letter at the beginning, after sentence-ending punctuation, and on each new line.

HELLO WORLD. TRY THIS! becomes Hello world. Try this!

This is a punctuation-based helper. It does not identify proper nouns, restore acronyms, or reliably distinguish abbreviations from sentence endings. Review names and the pronoun ?I? afterward.

Lowercase

Changes all cased letters to lowercase. Choose this to change upper case to lower case in text pasted from an all-caps source.

Hello WORLD becomes hello world.

Uppercase

Changes all cased letters to capitals, useful for short labels and headings. Numbers and punctuation stay in place.

Order 24: ready! becomes ORDER 24: READY!

Title Case

Capitalizes major words and keeps common short words such as ?a,? ?and,? ?of,? and ?the? lowercase inside a title. The first and last words on each line, and words after a colon or sentence-ending punctuation, are capitalized.

a guide to the stars becomes A Guide to the Stars. This is a practical English convention, not a specific publisher?s style guide.

Capitalized Case

Capitalizes the first letter of every word, including short words, and lowercases the rest. Apostrophes within words are preserved.

a guide to the stars becomes A Guide To The Stars.

Toggle Case

Swaps each letter?s existing case: capitals become lowercase and lowercase letters become capitals.

Hello WORLD becomes hELLO world.

Alternating Case

Alternates lowercase and uppercase letters, starting with lowercase. Spaces, numbers, punctuation, and letters without case do not advance the pattern.

Hello world! becomes hElLo WoRlD!

Inverse Case

Another name for toggling case. This button swaps existing upper and lower letters exactly like Toggle Case; it does not apply a fixed alternating pattern.

camelCase

Joins words, starts with a lowercase word, and capitalizes each following word.

free case converter becomes freeCaseConverter.

PascalCase

Joins words and capitalizes every word?s first letter, including the first.

free case converter becomes FreeCaseConverter.

snake_case

Joins lowercase words with one underscore between them.

free case converter becomes free_case_converter.

kebab-case

Joins lowercase words with single hyphens, useful for readable file names and URL path segments.

free case converter becomes free-case-converter.

CONSTANT_CASE

Joins uppercase words with underscores, often used for constant names.

free case converter becomes FREE_CASE_CONVERTER.

Developer formats recognize common case boundaries, so XMLHttpRequest becomes xml_http_request in snake_case. Repeated spaces, punctuation, underscores, and hyphens become word separators; apostrophes are removed. Accented letters and numbers are retained. Check your programming language?s naming rules, especially if a result starts with a number.

Unicode case mappings are used without a language-specific locale. Some letters expand when uppercased, such as ??? becoming ?SS,? so converting back may not recover the original. Use Undo when you need the exact previous text.

How to Use the Case Converter

  1. Type or paste text into the box. The four statistics update as you edit.
  2. Choose a writing or developer case. Each button converts the whole text.
  3. Review the result. Undo restores the state before your latest conversion, clear, paste, or group of typed edits.
  4. Choose Copy, or Download .txt to save converted-text.txt on your device.

Clear empties the box and resets its counts. Undo keeps one previous state in memory, including an empty state, only while this page remains open. Save or copy anything you want to keep before leaving.

Who Can Use This Tool?

Students can tidy essay headings; writers, editors, and bloggers can make titles consistent. Marketers and social media users can fix pasted captions or prepare short labels. Developers can turn readable phrases into names for variables, classes, files, and constants.

After changing case, check a caption?s length with the Character Counter, review sentence and paragraph totals with the Sentence Counter, or check an application draft with the Common App Essay Word Counter. Looking for words from letters instead? Try the Word Finder.

camelCase joins words without spaces, starts with lowercase, and uses capitals for subsequent words: ?account display name? becomes ?accountDisplayName.?

What is snake_case?

snake_case joins lowercase words with underscores: ?account display name? becomes ?account_display_name.? Existing spaces and other separators are normalized.

Is my text stored by WordsAnalyzer?

No. This converter processes text locally and keeps its one-step undo state only in page memory. It does not upload your text or save it to browser storage. Copy and Download save text only when you choose them. The site may remember your theme preference separately.

Can I use the case converter on mobile?

Yes. The text box and conversion buttons adapt to small screens. Paste with your device?s text menu, choose a format, and use Copy to take the result to another app.
