How to find words from letters
- Add your lettersEnter the letters you have, in any order. Add a ? if one letter is unknown.
- Make it a matchChoose a length, use every letter for an anagram, or open the advanced filters.
- Explore your wordsBrowse by length, change the sort order, and tap a word to copy it.
One finder, a few ways to explore
A word finder checks a word list for matches to your letters or clues. Use it as a word unscrambler for puzzles, to plan a vocabulary exercise, or to explore words for a writing prompt.
With REACT, five-letter matches include CATER, CRATE, REACT, and TRACE. Shorter possibilities include CARE, RACE, ACT, and TEA. Switch on exact anagrams to use every letter. With LETTER, two Es and two Ts are available; a third E would need a blank tile.
For words with known positions, leave Your letters empty and enter ?a?e in Pattern. Each question mark fills exactly one position. Starts with, Ends with, and Contains work on their own, too. Contains ea means the adjacent sequence EA; Must include ae allows those letters anywhere.
Find useful words without the guesswork
Start with a length if you know how many spaces your answer needs. For longer words, try familiar endings such as ING or ED. Remove one filter at a time if you get no matches. When entering letters, repeat each letter as many times as you have it.
The American English list includes ordinary words and inflections, with a smaller tier available through Common words only. Capitalized entries, abbreviations, hyphenated words, and apostrophe forms are excluded during preparation. The list is not exhaustive, and the sensitive-word filter is not a guarantee that every result is suitable for every audience.
Word Finder questions
Can I use a letter more than once?
Only if you enter it more than once, or a ? blank covers the extra occurrence. APPLE has two Ps. The finder will not create a word requiring three Ps from those letters alone.
How do blank tiles work?
Use ? in Your letters for one unknown letter, with up to two blanks per search. A blank can become any A–Z letter. Spaces are ignored and * is not supported. In Pattern, each ? marks one exact position and is not subject to the two-blank rack limit.
What is the difference between an anagram and shorter words?
Normal searches can use a subset of your letters. Exact anagrams must use every letter and blank once. LISTEN can match SILENT, while shorter words are omitted in exact mode.
Can I search without entering a rack of letters?
Yes. Leave Your letters empty and choose an exact length or add a pattern, starting sequence, ending sequence, or another word filter. For example, select five letters to browse five-letter words.
Will every result be accepted in my word game?
No. Different games use different dictionaries, word lengths, and rules. This is a general American English word finder, not an official Scrabble, Wordle, or Words With Friends dictionary. WordsAnalyzer is not affiliated with those games.
Why is a word missing?
The list favors standard American English spelling and excludes some names, abbreviations, and unusual forms. Your filters may also remove a word. Try clearing filters or disabling Common words only; check your game's own dictionary when acceptance matters.
Are my letters uploaded or saved?
No. The word list downloads from this site, then matching happens on your device. Letters are not added to the URL, saved in browser storage, or sent to analytics. Closing or reloading clears your search. See our privacy policy for normal page and font requests.
Does the finder work offline?
After the word list loads, you can continue searching in the open page without a connection. Reloading offline is not guaranteed. Browser caching depends on the browser and website host.
